Alana is a close-fitting, lined skirt without a waistband. The top edge of the skirt sits 3–4 cm (1 1/8–1 5/8") below the natural waistline and is finished with a facing. The skirt is fitted with front and back princess seams. It can be made either with front slits or decorative zippers. The skirt closes with an invisible zipper in the center back seam and is above-knee length.

To sew this skirt, choose dress-weight and suiting fabrics:
- medium-weight, soft, non-stretch or low-stretch
- the fiber content can include natural fibers, artificial fibers, blends, and synthetics.
Recommended fabrics: dress-weight wool, gabardine, denim, cotton, faux leather.
The skirt in the photos (version with slits) is made of natural cotton fabric. The fabric is medium weight, soft, and non-stretch.
The fiber content is 100% cotton.
The lining fabric is 100% cotton.
The version with decorative zippers is made of faux leather. The fabric is medium weight and low-stretch.
The fiber content is 100% polyester.
The lining is a blend of polyester (55%) and viscose (45%).
